Dicey Wells was born near Falmouth, Pendleton county, Kentucky, June 15, 1798, residing with her parents, Robert and Martha "Patsy" Groves, until her marriage to Samuel Wells in 1819. She and her husband then moved to Fairview, Fayette county, Indiana , in the fall of 1821, residing there for a period of 14 years.
In 1835 they moved to Marion county, near Acton. During their residence at there, Samuel became very much interested in the prospect of making Texas the future home for himself and family and in the spring of 1837 started on his mission to that country. Only one communication was ever received from him after his departure. He was then on board an Ohio steamer near Madison, Indiana, and his whereabouts has remained a mystery.
Dicey then moved with her family of dependent children to Rush county, and remained there until the marriage of her daughter Eliza, to Train Caldwell, and in the year 1856 moved with them to Grant county.
