George W. Baker

Our Schuyler Lake reporter says: On Friday, April 20, in our village there was a gloom of sadness caused by the death of George W. Bker. Mr. Baker was taken sick about three weeks ago at the home of his father-in-law, Theodore Bliss. He was taken with pleurisy and was thought to be getting better, when pleuro-pneumonia set in and he became violent and died within a few hours.

Mr. baker was 45 years old, and was born near Waterville, living htere with his parents until the age of 17, when he removed to South Columbia. he lived there two years and then came here and has lived near this village ever since. He was a man who was thought much of by all who knew him; always had a kind word for all and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Every day alike he was a kind, loving father and husband.

He was married october 30, 1878 to Miss ella bliss of this place. His parents died a number of years ago. He was from a family of 13 children only three of whom survive him, one brother Fred, and Mrs. Hattie Young and Mrs. Alice Danning, who all live in Buffalo. They were present at the funeral. His wife and duaghter are stricken with frief and will miss a loving father and husband. They have the sympathy of the whole community.

The funeral was held on Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the Union church, conducted by the Rev. S.R. Ward. Interment in our village cemetery.

The floral tributes from Mr. Baker's many friends and relatives were numerous and beautiful.

The death of Mr. Baker causes sorrow to the entire community, and it is hard to realize we shall see him no more. In the morning of life he was cut off as it seems, leaving a lasting sorrow in the hears of his family and many friends. But in the last day all tears will be wiped away and we shall see our friends again.
