Ed was a noted designer of US Navy fighter aircraft for Douglas Aircraft Company. He was self taught and without portfolio. He started with Douglas in 1926 as a draftsman.
Ed`s design goal was "find the most powerful engine available, design a plane around it while keeping it simple and light". His best known example was the A-4 SKYhawk.
