John Wesley Carpenter was born in Johnson county (sic), Indiana, April 8, 1954, moved to Marion county (sic), Iowa, with his parents in 1856. He was married to Melissa Sampson, July 9, 1876. He came ot (sic) Nebraska in 1879 and moved to Marshall county (sic), Kansas in 1882, then moved to Republic county (sic), Kansas in [D]ecember (sic), 1900, where he lived until his death, May 9, 1914, aged 70 years, 1 month and 1 day. Nine children were born to this union. The children are as follows: William A. and Bert W., of Superior, Mrs. Esta Masten, of Hubbell Mrs. Rena Jenkins, of Chester, Ada, Harley and Harriett at home. Dollie having preceded him in death September 20, 1907. A wife, 8 children, 4 grand-children and 4 brothers and 3 sisters survive him. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Simpson at the Ida church at 2 o'clock and interment was made in the Ida cemetery (sic).
