Edward W. "Wes" Allen, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2009 at King's Daughters Hospital.
A private funeral service will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. David Bryant officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Allen was born July 20, 1930 in Memphis, Tenn. to E.W. and Virginia Allen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a lifetime member of Mercedes, Texas Masonic Loge No. 1010, a past president and executive director of the Mississippi Aviation Association and a member of the Half-A-Hundred Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew, Johnny Boyd.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Allen of Yazoo City; a son, Raymond W. Allen of Highland Village, Texas; two brothers, Jere Allen of Mountain Home, Ark. and Thomas W. Allen of Marianna, Ark.; sister, Jeanne Then of Mountain Home, Ark.; stepdaughter, Kathy Crane of Yazoo City; stepson, Kevin Erickson of Yazoo City; a granddaughter, Savannah Allen; great granddaughter, Bailee; and two step grandsons, Jeremy Erickson and Adam Erickson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Irma Newell Hart, Bernie Jordan, Pete Palmore, Rob Coker, Les Clanton and Bubba Bradley.
