Fairfield CA resident Edward Bartels died at Fairfield hospital after a long illness. He was 93. A native of Estonia, he had lived in Fairfield three years. He was a longshoreman on the San Francisco waterfront for 31 years. In 1924 he won an Olympic gold medal in wrestling in Paris.
He is survived by one daughter, Leida Soomet of Napa CA; one son, Roy Bartels of San Francisco CA; one sister, Elizabeth of Estonia; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
