G W Armour Rites Are Conducted In Itasca Wednesday

Last rites for G. W. Armour, 85, of 103 South Aquilla St., Itasca, who passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, following a brief stay in a Hillsboro rest home, were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the First Baptist Church in Itasca at 3 o'clock.
Rev. W. T. Anderson, pastor, and Rev. Billy Sewell, pastor of Central Baptist Church here, were the officiating ministers.
George Washington Armour was a native of Kentucky. He was born in Warren County near Bowling Green on Jan. 26, 1877. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Whitehead Armour.
He came to Texas at the age of 19 in 1895 and was employed in textile mills in a number of Texas cities including Galveston, Dallas, Denison and Itasca, where he was employed by Itasca Cotton Mfg. Co. It was in Itasca that he met Miss Mittie Wyle who moved to this community from Alabama in June of 1901. They were married on March 17, 1902.
In 1919 Mr. and Mrs. Armour moved to Waco where he became an employee of the Waco Post Office remaining there until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1942.
They moved back to Itasca in July, 1943. Shortly after returning Mr. Armour was elected Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, an office in which he served for approximately six years.
Mr. Armour united with the Baptist Church as a small boy and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Itasca at the time of his passing. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Interment was in the Itasca Cemetery under direction of Hollingworth and Marshall Funeral Home.
Graveside rites were conducted by R. E. Lee Lodge No. 449, AF&AM, of Itasca.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Bill Brown, Charles Napps, Walter Napps, George Napps, J. D. Nation and W. C. Cottingame.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mittie Armour of Itasca, and a foster son, Albert Armour of Austin.
