Marie Reinerth Wamsley, 90, of Springfield, a newspaper correspondent in the 1930s, died Tuesday at home.
Born in Austria-Hungary, Mrs. Wamsley came to the United States as a child and grew up in the Lester area of Tinicum. She resided in Delaware County for most of her life, but also spent a dozen years in Mardela, Md., before returning to Springfield five years ago.
During the 1930s, Mrs. Wamsley was a correspondent for the old Chester Times, covering the Ridley Township area. In addition, she operated a guest lodge in the Catskill Mountains for a number of years.
Mrs. Wamsley was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and the Primos Prime Timers, a senior citizens' group.
Widow of Willard E. Wamsley, who died in 1981, she is survived by three sons, Wilbur Wamsley of Media, Robert E. Wamsley of Tifton, Ga., and H. Donald Wamsley of Little Rock, Ark.; two daughters, Dorothy C. Tallardy of Springfield and Elizabeth M. Adkins of Mardela, Md.; three brothers, Daniel Reinerth of Mortgomery County, Martin Reinerth of Folsom and William Reinerth of Lester; two sisters, Elizabeth Roth of Michigan and Emma Crane of Lester; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mardela Springs, Md.
