Melvin's obituary was published in the Minden Bee, August 26, 1881, on page 1. Obituary shared with compiler by Gary Brady, descendant and reads:
"DIED - - Near Minden, Neb. Aug. 17th, 1881, Melvin G. Brady, in the 27th year of his age.
The deceased came to his death by a fall from his horse while riding leisurely along, injuring him internally in such a manner that after a few days of great suffering he breathed his last.
He was a resident of Harlan county and had come to this vicinity to make a short stay. He leaves there a wife and child with parents to mourn his loss.
Mr. Brady was a young man of good character, was prominent in the work of education and also temperance, having been for some years a prominent member of the I.O.G.T. Order [International Organization of Good Templars]. He was a good citizen, a kind neighbor, a dutiful son and a loving husband and father. Was very much respected by all with whom he was acquainted.
A short funeral service was held over his remains by the Rev. W. F. Gruncy, with whom the deceased has formerly been acquainted, after which they were conveyed to the Minden Cemetery, there to await the morning of the resurrection."
Thanks to Gary Brady for the obituary and the photo of Melvin's headstone.
