CROFTON---Joseph L. Arens, 74, died Feb. 25, 2001, at McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation will be Feb. 28 from 2-9 p.m., with a 3 p.m. rosary and a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., all at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be March 1, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with Rev. Bob English officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Constance, with military services conducted by the Crofton American Legion Post #128.
Pallbearers will be Jim Arens, Mike Arens, Frank Arens, Mark Arens, Jamie Arens and Garret Nelson.
Joe was born Dec. 9, 1926, to Joseph and Anna Mary (Schieffer) Arens in Constance.
He married Betty Heller June 2, 1954, in Crofton.
He grew up in the Constance and Crofton areas, and graduated from Crofton Public High School, Crofton, in 1944. He entered the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He returned to Crofton where he farmed 3 1/2 miles south of Crofton.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, Crofton; four children and spouses, Pat and Chris Nelson, Yankton Falls, S.D.; Jean Arens, O'Neill; and Joseph D. and Leonarda Arens, Crofton; six grandchildren, Garret Nelson, Shannon Nelson, Stacie Olson, Mark Olson, Jamie Arens and Meghan Arens; a brother, Don Arens, Yankton, S.D.; a sister and husband, Mary Ann and Ray Muller, Onawa, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Rita Arens, Stuart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jimmy and Francis Arens.
