Funeral services for Clara Aurora "Kate" Altermatt, Siloam Springs-Twin Bridges Route, West Plains, are to be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Little Zion Church, with her grandson, Lonnie Roper of Rolla, Mo. Officiating. Mrs. Altermatt died at 5:05 p.m. yesterday at her home. She had been in frail health for many months and bedfast since August of 1965. Her parents were the late Dr. John William Lovan, physician in Douglas County for more than 40 years, and Mary Alice (Hatcher) Lovan. As a young girl, Mrs. Altermatt accompanied her father on his calls to the sick and during that time gained a knowledge of nursing. She later became a midwife and has delivered more that one hundred babies in Douglas County besides all 14 of her grandchildren. Mrs Altermatt was born in Hebron, Mo. December 21, 1894 and spent her entire life in Douglas County. She was married in January 1909 to Edward Francis Altermatt, who preceded her in death August 19, 1959. She had been a member of the Jehovah Witness Church for more than 30 years. Survivors include severn children, Walter Altermatt and Edna Reed, both of Siloam Springs; Wallace Altermatt, Willow Springs; Edith Roger,Licking,Mo; Charles Altermatt, Kansas City, Mo; Zola Dickinson, Willow Springs,Mo; and Pauline Benfield, Lutesville, Mo; three sisters, Anna White and Essie Ecton, Siloam Springs and Retta Sigman of Willow Springs. Interment will be in Little Zion Cemetery, beside her husband, under the direction of Robertson Funeral Home. (Oregon County History Net)
