Elsworth was the son of George Gerkey. He married first Mary Etta Raines. They had three daughters, Sadie, Ida Bell and Maude Bessie. They divorced prior to 1891 as Mary Etta married Joseph Underwood in 1891. She and her two surviving children were living with Joseph in 1900. Joseph died in 1910 and Mary Etta married John Watson - he died in 1924. Elsworth married Jennetta Robitzer Morrison (w/o John Dickey Morrison). Both Elsworth and Jennetta died in the Ohio County Infirmary in Delaware County. Jenny is buried in the Infirmary cemetery.
