OSBORN, CHARLES TODD
Charles Osborn was born September 4, 1843, in New Jersey and passed away at his home in Iola, Kans., December 22, 1928, aged 85 years, 3 months and 18 days. On March 13, 1867, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Devore and to this union were born 5 children. In 1872 the family came from Indiana to Kansas and has resided in and near Iola since that time. Accordingly the hardships and trials incident to the early pioneer life were well known in this family. With the passing of the years and the weaknesses incident to old age, Mr. Osborn has had to give up many of the activities of earlier life and has lived quietly at home with three of his children and three grandchildren close at hand.
In early life he was converted and united with the Methodist church. While he did not move his membership with him when moving from the old home community yet he has tried to keep the faith, and departed this life quite willing to go and to be at rest.
He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Jessie May Barker, of Squirrel, Idaho;, Mr. James P. Osborn, of Squirrel, Idaho; Mrs. Violet Willis , of Iola; Mrs. Pearl Wallis, of Iola; and Mrs. Eva Kuhlman, of Humboldt. He leaves also 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held in the Adams & Hesser chapel. Rev. C.I. Coldsmith officiating. Music was provided by Miss Margaret Huff, Mrs. R.B. Warner, Mr. Carl Sarten and Mr. Everett Land, with Mrs. Floyd Smith at the piano. Interment was in the Iola Cemetery. (The Iola Register, Monday, December 24, 1928
