Funeral Services Held for Thos. Bang, Sr., Yesterday

Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran church yesterday afternoon for Thos. Bang, Sr., Brookings businessman and resident for 33 years, who died at the Municipal hospital Saturday after a heart ailment of about one year.

The Rev. A., E. Hanson conducted the services, and interment was made in Greenwood cemetery.

Honorary pall bearers were Dean C. Larsen, Fred Cole, Clyde Tidball, Herman G. Hauff, Ed Sorenson and B.H. Schaphorst. Active pall bearers were V.O. Madisen, Dr. Magni Davidson, Marius Larson and J.E. Martin.

Thos. Bang, Sr., was born May 12, 1879 in Denmark, and married to Mary Larsen Oct. 8, 1938, in Webster. The couple lived at Webster for four years, and Bryant for two years, where Mr. Bang was engaged in the creamery business.

The family came to Brookings in 1913, when Mr. Bang purchased the Brookings Creamery from Jesse A. Nielsen.

Purchased Bakery in 1920
He sold he creamery to I.J. Bibby in 1920, and purchased what is now Bang's Bakery from Mrs. A.M. Wold, which he actively conducted until about a year ago, when he became ill.

Mr. Bang was a past president of the South Dakota Bakers' association and the Brookings Kiwanis club. He was a member of the Brookings school board and senior Chamber of Commerce, and on the board of deacons at First Lutheran church.

Surviving him, in addition to his wife, is a brother, Valdemar Bang of Copenhagen, Denmark; four daughters, Ella Bang of Yankton, Jennie Bang of Ames, Iowa, Lillian Bang of Canton, Ohio, and Helen Bang of Minneapolis, Minn.; and three sons, Fred Bang of Sioux Falls, and Thos. Bang Jr., and Kenneth Bang of Brookings.
