Carl E. Barkow, 63, died at Bellevue Hospital, Monday night, from injuries received when he walked into a moving car Thursday morning. He was employed as a car inspector for the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad, retiring from that job in December of 1955. Services are this afternoon with burial in Bellevue Cemetery. Survivors include the widow, the former Sadie Howland, Toledo; one daughter, Mrs. James Schulz, Amherst; one son, Robert, of Clyde, and three grandchildren.

Injuries Fatal For Pedestrian
The first pedestrian death, caused by injuries, to a Bellevue resident, since an 8 year old girl was fatally injured in July of 1953, was recorded Monday night.
The victim, Carl E. Barkow, 63, W. Main St., died Monday at 10:45pm, in Bellevue Hospital. He was injured Thursday, March 19, at W. Main near Kilbourne St.
The automobile driver, Wilson M. Dick, 43, rural Clyde, was not held by police. The last traffic fatality, not involving a pedestrian in Bellevue, took place on Wheeling District, Nickel Plate railroad crossing on Kilbourne St., on Dec. 30, 1958 when Lawrence Avery Buess, 44, Mt. Blanchard, O., died at Bellevue Hospital, after the truck he was riding in collided with a diesel engine on the crossing. Mr. Barkow was born October 9, 1890, at Appleton, Wis. He was the son of Charles and Louise Barkow.
On April 13, 1917, Mr. Barkow married Sadie L. Howland, at Toledo. The couple moved to Bellevue about 28 years ago.
Mr. Barkow retired as a car inspector for the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad, on Dec. 1, 1955. He was a member of the B&RT.
In addition to the widow, Mr. Barkow is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James Schulz, Amherst, O.; a son, Robert C. Barkow, Clyde, O.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Harris Funeral Home at 2pm Thursday, the Rev. T. Rene Meyer will offiicate and burial will be in the Bellevue Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the new church memorial fund of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7pm today.
