Karl was the son of Fredrik ~ according to the Swedish name pattern, he became Fredrik's son or Karl Fredrikson. Fredrik Albert Johansson and Petronella Sofia Hellender had fourteen children, all born in Hjorted, Sweden except Karl who was born in Norrhult, Sweden.

Sigfred was a farmer living near St. James, MN. He was a veteran of World War I, and at one time ran a livery stable in Hayfield, MN. According to the 1930 Federal Census he used the initials for his name S.A. instead of Karl.
