John Edward Allen, 56, of Duncansville went to be with our Lord Saturday at Windber Medical Center after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Baltimore, Md., son of Edward T. and Betty Lee (Engle) Allen. His mother died in 1972. He married Anne L. Karcher in 1991 in Hollidaysburg.

Surviving are his wife, Anne, of 17 years; and a daughter Kristen, both of Duncansville; a son, Phillip; a sister, Cathy Berdini; and a brother, Scott; all in Maryland.

John was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.

He was a car salesman and also worked for Lowe's in Altoona as an electrical specialist.

He was a graduate of Glenelg High School, Howard County, Md., and attended the University of Baltimore.

He was an avid archery hunter and fisherman.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held (www.sorgefuneralhome.com).

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony J. Legarski.

Committal will be at New St. Mary Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.

The family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
