Damme Services Held Saturday at Redeemer Church
Funeral services for Edward J.Damme, 77, were held Saturday afternoon at Redeemer Lutheran church. Mr. Damme died last Wednesday at his home. Rev. S. K. de Freese officiated at the rites. Mrs. Edwin Bahe and Mrs. Fritz Ellis sang "He leadeth Me" and "My Faith Looks Up to Thee." Ted Bahe he was accompanist. Pallbearers were Edward and Harold Gathje, Adolph Korn, Richard Carmen, Lawrence Thomsen and Emil Vahlkamp. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
Edward John William Damme, the eldest son of William and Albertina Shutt Damme, was born Jan. 16, 1884 in Otoe county. He came to Wayne county with his parents when he was a child. He was confirmed at Theophilus Reformed church when he was 14. Mr. Damme was a farmer all his life and spent more than 50 years on a farm southeast of Wayne. October 1, 1913 he married Emma Schroeder. Shortly thereafter the Damme's joint Redeemer Lutheran church, Wayne. Mr. Damme he served many years on the church council and was active in the Sunday school and United Lutheran Church Men until his death.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters and five brothers. Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Sister Sophie, at home, and Mrs. Ruth Di Maio, Walthill; three grandchildren, Sandra, Frank and Tony Di Maio; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Henriksen, Pierre, S. D., and Mrs. Lottie Schroeder, Wayne; three brothers, Fred,Winside, Carl and Albert, Wayne.
