Frank M. Gibbs, "Pops," age 91, of Destin, Fla., passed away at his home Monday, April 19, 2010.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1918, in Gainesville, Hall County, Ga., to Robert T. and Estelle Maxie Gibbs. He was a resident of the area since 1952, moving here as a military family. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army for over 20 years and retired in 1958. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea. The last five years of his military career he was manager of the U.S. Army Recreation Center in Destin. After retirement he also worked for Boeing and was a boat marine repairman. He was Baptist by faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Destin. He and his wife, Ginny, enjoyed traveling. He loved fishing and working in his yard. He was a loving and good husband and enjoyed always being around family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Peale; and six of his siblings. He is survived by his loving wife, Ginny Gibbs of 70 years of marriage; daughters, Betty (Jim) Woodward of Coweta, Okla., and Frankie Jean (Roger) Peale of Destin; grandson, Gregory Woodward; granddaughter, Tammy and her two sons; three great-grandchildren, Gregory, Jason and John Michael; great-great grandson, Caiden; sisters, Evelyn Shunk, Peggy Koker and Letty Daniels; brothers, Douglas Gibbs and Maxie Gibbs; and a host of other friends, and special caregivers, Marie Dillard and Lynette Delp.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Hospice for the loving care they provided

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Destin. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bob Boone officiating. Following services burial will be in Destin Memorial with full military honors.
