Kingsport- Bishop Mack G. Arnold, 91, of Kingsport finished his work for God while here on earth late Saturday night (August 19, 2006) at Indian Path Medical Center.
He was born in to Jess and Delphia Arnold on March 14, 1915 in Hawkins County, TN. In 1939 he married the love of his life and in his words, "The prettiest woman I ever saw", Martha Crawford. They were blessed with seven children. Mr. Arnold retired from Eastman Kodak. Rev. Arnold dedicated his life to promoting the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was instrumental in establishing three local churches; Blairs Gap Church of Jesus Christ, Orebank Church of Jesus Christ and Arnold's Chapel Holiness Church of Jesus Christ. He was pastor at Arnold's Chapel for over 54 years and was still honored to be called pastor at his death. He was Presiding Bishop of the Holiness Church of Jesus Christ (a ministerial association) for over 30 years, resigning due to his health in 2004. Rev. Arnold will be remembered for his dedication and determination to lead people to God and to spread a spirit of love and fellowship among God's people.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rachel Arnold; his son-in-law, Homer Arnold; his sister, Maude Arnold; four brothers, Charlie Arnold, Ralph Arnold, Lee Arnold & Clyde Arnold.
Rev. Mack G. Arnold is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Martha Crawford Arnold; sons & daughters-in-law, Keith & Toni Arnold, Gerald & Tammy Arnold, Mack Arnold, Jr.; daughters & sons-in-law, Phyllis & J.B. Mowell, Barbara & Jerry Linkous, Kimbla & Charles Alexander, Retha Arnold. He leaves behind his 17 grandchildren & step-grandchildren, Penny (Bryan) Henderson, Cheryl (Darrell) Ward, Brian Arnold, Jim (Kerry) Arnold, Yolanda (Michael) Bailey, Billy (Martha) Mowell, Charity (Brian) Lawson, Benji Arnold, Miranda (Michael) Jones, Eric Linkous, Jonathan (Candice) Coffey, Candace (Justin) Barger, Kevin (Bree) Arnold, Leah Arnold, Samuel Mack Arnold, Joi' Lowery & Elijah Bradley; his 23 great grandchildren; his brother, Kyle (Joyce) Arnold; his two sisters, Lou Arnold & Mary Arnold; his sister-in-law, Mary Kate Arnold. Rev. Arnold is survived by his special niece, Agnes Thompson along with several additional nieces and nephews; a host of minister friends and his precious church family.
Calling hours for Rev. Mack G. Arnold will be held on Monday, August 21, 2006 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill or anytime at the residence, 222 Sherry Street in Kingsport. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, August 21, 2006 at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tommy Benton & Rev. David Roy Brickey officiating. The Benton family will provide the music.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 1 p.m. at McPheeters Bend Community Cemetery with family and friends meeting at the funeral home one hour prior to the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rev. Arnold's minister friends and the brethren from Arnold's Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arnold's Chapel Church, c/o Barbara Linkous, 159 Sturbridge Lane, Church Hill, TN 37642.
