Business Executive, Union Civil War Veteran. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Major Joseph Andrews. When the Confederate Army threatened to attack Cincinnati during the Civil War in 1862, he answered the city's call for volunteers and joined a militia company, Neff's Detachment of Ohio Volunteers, when he was 19 years old. After the war, he returned to Cincinnati and operated a succussful tobacco business with his brother, Joseph A. Andrews, who had been a Captain in the 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The brothers continued to work together in business and in 1885 they established the Globe Iron Roofing and Corrugating Company in Cincinnati. Accumulating a modest wealth, they purchased the Newport Iron and Steel Works in 1891. His brother became the company's president and treasurer of Globe. Andrews in turn, was the president of Globe and treasurer at Newport Steel. In 1906, they purchased the Queen City Race Track at Latonia near the Licking River. Joseph died in 1909 and Albert continued to run the businesses while setting up their sons to take over. Albert died at his residence in Newport in 1922 when he was 79 years old.
