Cpl. Joseph Gillis was a member of the 194th Tank Battalion. He was stationed at Clark Airfield when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
After for long months of fighting, he became a Prisoner of War. He was held in various POW camps in the Philippines. He became ill and died as a POW at Cabanatuan POW Camp.
Joseph Gillis was a member of C Company, 194th Tank Battalion. He fought on Bataan and became a Prisoner of War on April 9, 1942. He took part in the death march and was held at Camp O'Donnell. Since the death rate at the camp was extremely high, he and the other healthier POWs were moved to Cabanatuan POW Camp. It was there that he became ill and died from disease.
