Emilio "Charras" Flores, 69, of Kearny, passed away March 12, 2009 in Ahwatukee (Phoenix).

He was born July 29, 1939 in Ray, Arizona, to Rita Gomez and Emilio Flores. He lived his early years in Sonora, Arizona and then made his home in Kearny.

Mr. Flores went to school at Ray High School where he played basketball and football; he was crowned Homecoming King.

He married Gloria Palos on Nov. 27, 1972.

He served in the Army and worked at Kennecott and then the Asarco mine for more than 40 years.

He read the newspaper religiously every single morning and enjoyed watching television. Before falling ill, he gardened in his backyard and exercised daily at the Ray High School football field.

His pride and joy were his children and he loved to spend time with them and his wife every chance he could get.

Mr. Flores leaves behind his wife, Gloria Flores of Kearny; son, Albert Flores of Kearny; daughter, Erika Flores of Kearny; mother, Rita Romo of Kearny; sisters, Norma Celis and Sylvana Acevedo, both of Kearny; brother, Rudy Flores of Kearny; and eight nieces and nephews, all of Kearny. He is also survived by aunt and uncle, Amelia and Emiliano Gomez of Oracle; brothers, Albert Flores of Phoenix and Victor Flores of California; sister, Mary Anne Flores of California; and three aunts of California.

Funeral services are pending: date and time will be posted at the Post Office in Kearny.
