Butte Record, Friday evening, October 29, 1897: "Death of Mrs. Bateman. Mrs. Anna Marilda Bateman, wife of T.M. Bateman, died at her home near Durham last night at 9 o'clock, aged 41 years and 23 days. Mrs. Bateman was born October 3, 1856, in Wapelow [sic; Wapello, Ed.] county, Iowa. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence. Interment will be at the Johnson ranch cemetery, on the Chico and Oroville road, about 5 miles from Chico."
Butte Record, Saturday, October 30, 1897: "Death Near Durham". Mrs. Anna M. Bateman died at her home near Durham Tuesday night. Deceased was the wife of T.M. Bateman and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her death. She was aged 41 years and 23 days, and was a native of Iowa.
The funeral takes place today from the family residence, and the interment will be at the cemetery on the Oroville road."

Chico Ent (W) says middle name is Marilda, age 41 yr. 23 da., b. 3 Oct 1856, d. in Durham, Calif., bur. at Johnson Ranch cem. on Chico-Oroville Road, wife of T.M. Bateman, date of paper is Oct. 29, 1897."
Per the Marriage Records, Butte County Recorder's Office, Oroville: Thomas Mark Bateman, age 48, married Annie Miller, age 35, both of Dayton Twp., on August 27, 1890 in Oroville; Book 5, page 335.
