Emma was born to John and Hester M. Cacy Potter. She married A.B. Kinyon on Jan 6, 1869. They had only one child, a daughter named Lula who married Edwin Franklin Tibbetts. Her obituary reads that she was a woman who enjoyed life. She took a great interest in the social life of Peterson Iowa and a willing helper in any need. She went through the early hardships on the Iowa prairie and made a willing helper to her husband. She died as she had lived - honored, trusted and loved. She had been in poor health but up to the morning of the last day her life was not despaired of and reports came from the home that she was getting better. Her illness dates back to an attack of erysipelas in the spring. She never fully recovered and a little over a month ago other complications set in and she gradually weakended until death relieved her suffering Wednesday evening, October 18th at 5:30.
"We saw not the lift of the curtain,
Nor heard the invisible door,
As they passed where life's problems uncertain
Will linger and vex them no more.
We lingered and wept on the threshold
The threshold each mortal must cross
Then we laid a new wreath down upon it
To mark a new sorrow and loss."
