A.B. Kinyon was the son of Amasa and Caroline Collins Kinyon. He married Emma Potter on 6 Jan 1869. To this union only one child was born. Lula who married Edwin Franklin Tibbetts. A.B. Kinyon was a sportsman hunting big game and later farmed for 2 years in Stillwater Minn. He went back to Wisconsin where he worked for 4 years and then started westward from St. Paul Minn in company with 156 men, their destination being Montana. While enroute when within 9 miles of LIttle Missouri they were attacked by the Indians. So fierce was the battle that he and his companions in order to obtain safety were forced to construct a fort behind which to secure refuge. They named it Fort Diltz and for 3 days carried on a hot conflict. They carried on for 20 days and on the last day were reinforced by 8 companies of US regulars. It was during this time in his life that he was a scout. He traveled all through the west and assisted in putting up telegraph poles thrown down by the Indians. He owned 462 acres of land in Clay county Iowa. He held a number of public offices and in politics he was always loyal to the replublican party and cast his first vote in 1860 for Abraham Lincoln.
