"The LaFayette Sun" - January 2, 1929:

A marriage of distinguished interest to hosts of friends throughout Alabama was that of Miss Ruby Harmon and Dr. James M. Abney, which lovely event was solemnized Wednesday afternoon, December twenty-sixth, at half past two o'clock, at the Baptist pastorium in the presence of a small company of relatives and friends. Dr. J. B. Laseter impressively read the sacred ring ceremony. The spacious living room where the vows were pledged, and throughout the house, was decorated in red and green Yuletide colors. Holly wreaths, garlands of green, red bells and clusters of mistletoe with handsome Boston ferns as a background. Tall white tapers burning in silver candelabras lighted the beautiful scene. The bride, who is a beautiful girl of blond type, was exquisite in a Lido blue flat creme gown with trimming of point-de-venice lace and French touches of rhinestone paillettas. Her small hat was blue and silver and accessories were in lovely harmony. Her corsage bouquet was of pink roses and her long coat was tan broadcloth and fur. Mrs. Abney is the accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Harmon. She is a graduate of Chambers County High School at Milltown and graduated with high honors at Jacksonville Normal the past summer. She is a member of the faculty of Union Hill School, where she teaches the fifth and sixth grades. She is prominent in all social, literary and religious activities of her home and by her ability and wonderful personality will be a valued acquisition to her new home.
Dr. Abney numbers his friends by every one who knows him. He is a man of the highest ideals and most splendid traits of character. He is one of the leading citizens and most popular men of Chambers County and has earned his popularity by his noble manhood. He also is a graduate of Chambers County High School at Milltown. He is an ex-service World War man. He was in training at the Government Veterinary School at Camp Lee, Virginia, and saw distinguished service overseas with Veterinary Hospital Unit No. 10, under Major M. E. Knowles. He is prominently identified with all high civic, religious and social activities of his town and state. After the ceremony and congratulations Dr. and Mrs. Abney left for an extended auto trip to Montgomery and Mobile. Hearty congratulations and every good wish is extended this splendid couple.
