Doctor of Divinity and a member of the brilliant Burney family. His father was the composer and music-historian Charles Burney, his brother the mariner James and his sisters the authors Fanny and Sarah Harriet. Charles himself, as well as being a clergyman, was a schoolmaster at Deptford and a classical scholar who amassed a large collection of books and manuscripts which are now in the possession of the British Museum.
