Rev. David A. Knighton, Sr., 76, a native and longtime resident of Hughes County, died Saturday at McAlester Regional Hospital. Rev. Knighton was born in LaMar, Oklahoma. He was of the Baptist faith and had been a minister since 1929. He was pastor of the Rock Hill Baptist Church in Wewoka, and Thomas Town in Sasakwa. He also served at Shiloh Baptist Church in Holdenville, Salt Creek in Clearview and Middle Creek in Sasakwa. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, the former Lorene Olden, whom he married in Sept. 1929; four daughters, Joyce Griffin of McAlester, Thelma Fleming and Barbara Brown of Midwest City, and Marva Tenner of Oklahoma City; four sons, Rev. David C. Knighton and Billy Knighton of McAlester, John Dale Knighton of Detroit, MI and Rickey Knighton of San Antonio, TX.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 pm in the First Baptist Church of Holdenville. Rev. T. H. Hubbard of Shiloh Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, and Rev. K. D. Davis of Mount Triumph Baptist Church of McAlester will officiate. Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery.
