George was the son of George and Verna (Moran) Black. He married Genevieve Giacomo on Oct. 11, 1952, in Van Buren, Ark. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Japan and then in the Korean War and had been awarded the Army Occupation Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the U.N. Service Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge. After he received his honorable discharge, he served in the Oklahoma National Guard for a number of years, receiving his discharge as sergeant first class. He had a long career in law enforcement, first as a correctional officer with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections at the state prison, then at the Oklahoma City Police Department, motorcycle division; then at the El Paso, Texas Police Department, again in the motorcycle division; then Nassau Bay, Texas Police Department. He then returned to McAlester, where he worked on the McAlester Police Department, and the Pittsburg County Sheriff's Department, then returned to work at the prison until his retirement in 1986 as chief of security. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Black, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Connie Black, of McAlester, David and Karen Black, of Krebs, and George Jr. and Teresa Black, of McAlester. Also, seven grandchildren, Richard Black, of McAlester, Jonathon and Chelsie Black, of Durant, Jennifer and Jeff Ellis, Mansfield, Texas, David and Allison Black, of Krebs, Jordan and Sami Jo Black, of Coleman, Amanda and Josheb English, of Checotah, and Melissa Black, of McAlester. And, great-grandchildren, Morgan Black, Reagan and Cayden Ellis, Scarlett Black, Addie Black, Evan Black, Mazzy Black, Bayler Black and Giana English; sister-in-law, Christine Windle and her husband, Jay, of Wewoka, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eugene and Bill Black. Pallbearers will be Richard Black, Jonathon Black, David Black, Jordan Black, Josheb English and Jeff Ellis. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Krebs with Father Jim Caldwell officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
