At the family residence, four miles northwest of Newton, on Saturday, August 5, 1893 at 11 p.m., Mrs. Lucy Baugh, wife of Mr. Wm. C. Baugh.

Mrs. Baugh, whose maiden name was Phillips, was born in Wayne Co., Indiana, October 24, 1833, and at the time of her death was aged 59 years 9 months and 11 days.

On Sept. 12th, 1850, she was married to Wm. C. Baugh, with whom she came to Iowa in 1868.

Mrs. Baugh was raised in the Society of Friends, but when 18 or 19 years of age, she united with the Baptist Church. In 1876 she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she remained a member until her death. She was the mother of five children, three sons and two daughters.

A few days before her death tidings were received of the death of a son in California.

The funeral services were held at the family residence on Monday, Aug. 7th, conducted by Rev. E. C. Brooks, of the Methodist Episcopal Church, assisted by Rev. D. Brown of the Presbyterian Church. The remains were interred in the Metz cemetery. ~ The Newton Journal, August 9, 1893.
