ANDERSON, LARRY W.

Larry W. Anderson was born August 21, 1945 in Storm Lake, Buena Vista County, IA, the son of Wayne B. and Helen Shirley Boerner Anderson. He attended Kiron Public Schools in Kiron, Crawford County, IA, where he was active in band and acting in plays. Upon consolidation of schools, he attended Odebolt High School in Odebolt, Sac County, IA.

In younger years he attended the Kiron Evangelical Free Church and later was baptized and joined the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.

Larry had various types of employment in his life, starting with a paper route for the Sioux City Journal as a very young boy. Later, he worked for Larson Hardware and Fred's (Kollbaum) Plumbing and Heating in Kiron. After this he was engaged in working for Super Valu in Ida Grove and Denison, IA. Following that he was employed by Moore Brothers who owned a few stores in this area of Iowa and worked in various capacities amongst the stores.

Larry did a lot of traveling of the United States after his employment at Moore Brothers, living and working in many places, doing all manner of things. Some were namely, Louisiana, New Mexico and Washington.

In the 1970's, he returned to Iowa and had his own business, Larry's Upholstery in Boyer, Crawford County, IA. Following that he moved to Minnesota, where he worked in the Computer Programming business when it was in it's beginning stages using punch cards. He also worked in a furniture factory and in small convenience stores.

Larry was always interested in everything and educated and trained himself to do almost any kind of activity. Some the special things were reading, cooking, baking, gardening, carpentry and crafting.

In 1990, he returned to Boyer, IA and lived on the family farm.

Larry died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Indian Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center in Sioux City, IA. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 63 years, 7 months and 21 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant sister, Eileen, and his son, James Hoops.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda (Marc) Schwanz of Holstein, IA, one sister, Sharyl (Don) Mildenstein of Denison, IA, one brother, Garry (Peggy) Anderson of Sierra Vista, AZ, four grandchildren, one great grandson, eight nephews and nieces, 21 great nephews and nieces and one great great niece.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, IA, with the Rev. Trish Underberg officiating. Recorded musical selections included "Angels In Waiting", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Where The River Flows", "Take My Hand Precious Lord", "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Peace In The Valley", "I Bid You Goodnight", "Oh! Shenandoah", "The Soft Goodbye" and "Funeral Bagpipes". Inurnment was at the Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, IA. Following the inurnment all were invited to return to the church for a luncheon prepared and served by the Bethel Lutheran Women's Society.
