Mrs. H. M. Milburn died Saturday

Was Pioneer Resident of Stanton County

As a climax to nearly two years of illness "Grandma" Milburn died Saturday Afternoon at her home in Morton County. The cause of her death was given as cancer. She has been practically bedfast for the past nine months. She is known as one of the early settlers of this country having come here in 1887 when her and her husband H. M. Milburn filed on a claim in Morton County. They have made that their home for forty-four successive years. Emma Jane Whaley was Mrs. Milburn's maiden name. She was born in Brooklyn, NY January 29, 1856, but on account of her mother's death, at the age of three weeks she was placed in her uncle's home in Iowa. Mrs. Milburn had reached the ripe old age of 75 years. As a pioneer Mrs. Milburn shared in the rigorous life of the frontier, and attained the spirit of cordial hospitality which she never forgot. The name "Grandma" Milburn, by which she was familiarly known, was worthily earned. She was the mother of fourteen children, ten of which are still living. The large family has increased until there are now sixty-six grand children and twenty-nine great grand children.
Counting children, grand children and great grand children, the direct decendents total more than 100. She was converted in 1893, and joined the Brethern church. Later she joined the Nazarene church and still later she was connected with the Penticostal church. She leaves an aged and infirm husband after more than fifty years of beautiful wedded life. She became the wife of Hosea Milton Milburn December 17, 1874, while she was living with her cousin, Mrs. Chrisman, in Milton County, Kansas. Funeral services were held at the Dermot Baptist church Tuesday afternoon. Interment was made in the Dermot cemetery. Those of the immediate family that are left to mourn her death are: H. M. Milburn, husband; seven daughters, Iva Milburn, Mrs. Viola Hubbard, Mrs. Ida Smith, Mrs. Maude Simmons, Kate Pearce, Marjorie Clarkson and Gladys Youngren; three sons, Peter Milburn, Archie Milburn and Louis Milburn.
