She graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1939. She is an Army veteran of World War II having served as a nurse on the USS Shamrock. She married Robert Anderson on June 14, 1947 in Duluth. She had a career in nursing and retired as a nurse at Duluth Detox Center in 1983 after 13 years. Alice was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she was actively involved in the choir and in United Methodist Women. She was a member of the American Legion Post 71 and St. Luke's Nurse Alumni Association. She enjoyed gardening, singing, playing the organ and ballroom dancing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Anderson in Dec. 10, 1971; parents; two brothers, Leonard and Chester Hedlund; and daughter-in-law, Michele Anderson.
Alice is survived by her son, Mark; daughter, Gale (Mark) Smithson; brothers: Dale (Sylvalen) Hedlund , Donald (Gloria) Hedlund; sister, Jean (Joseph) Campbell; grandchildren: Jared, Beth, Daniel, David, Joseph; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
