Dale D. Johnson, 81, Lake Wilson, died Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Pipestone County Medical Center, Pipestone.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, with Rev. Jon Skaar officiating.

Pallbearers will be Kent Carlson, Jack Van Eck, Pete Gunnink, Don Nielsen, Jerry Platt, Gary Carlson, Lennie Carlson and David Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be LeRoy Prahm, Ray Powell and Everett Von Arb.

Military honors will be provided by Lake Wilson American Legion Post #285.

Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Lake Wilson.

Dale D. Johnson was born on July 19, 1925 in Slayton to George and Rachel Brewster Johnson. He grew up on farms in the Hadley and Lake Wilson areas. Dale graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 16, 1943 and served in the Southern Pacific. Following his discharge on Feb. 14, 1946 he returned to Lake Wilson.

Dale and his brother, Don, operated Johnson Brother's Mobil Station.

On August 10, 1949 he married Lorraine Ostergaard at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson. Following their marriage they made their home in Lake Wilson and Dale continued at the Mobil station until 1962. Dale and Lorraine then started Johnson's Grocery Store in Lake Wilson. They retired in 1974. Dale was also a school bus driver for 41 years.

On December 5 he became a resident of the Pipestone Good Samaritan Home.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson and served as church treasurer, on the church council, usher and Luther League advisor. He was a member of the Lake Wilson American Legion Herbert Holtke Post #285 and held various offices. He was also a member of Lake Wilson Lions Club, the Lake Wilson Fire Department and Community Club, served on the Village Council and the Lake Wilson School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, Lake Wilson; three children, Carolyn Napier, Lake Worth, Fla.; Gregory (Kristin) Johnson, Forest Lake and Diane (Richard) Clercx, Slayton; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one sister-in-law, Arlyss Johnson, Marshall.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Donald and John Johnson.
