Edgar Frederick Dickensheets, 85, formerly of Sams Creek, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Brinton Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, near Winfield, after an extended illness.
Born July 6, 1926, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Nora Hahn Dickensheets. He was the husband of Dolly Strine Dickensheets, who died in 1999.
He was a member of Sams Creek Church of the Brethren, a former member of Frederick Lodge No. 371 Loyal Order of Moose and Central Maryland Dealers Association. In earlier years he was employed as a truck driver with M.J. Grove of Frederick. He then farmed in the New Windsor area and later sold Amish-made farm equipment until his retirement. He enjoyed watching baseball and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, attending breakfasts at local fire halls, his dog Tiny and spending time with granddaughter Laura and her activities.
Surviving are daughters Kitty Boone, of Mount Pleasant, Bonnie Albaugh, of Union Bridge, and Brenda Hardy and husband Jack, of New Windsor; an adopted brother, Gene Covell, of Westminster; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Fawley; brothers Junior, Harold and Pete Dickensheets; and sons-in-law Ronald Boone and Jimmy Albaugh.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sams Creek Church of the Brethren, 2736 Marston Road, New Windsor, with his pastor, the Rev. Paul N. Leatherman Jr., officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date in Sams Creek Cemetery.
