We knew him as Grandpa Brown. He was the 2nd husband of Blanche Bliss Brown, our grandmother and became the willing mate to raise her remaining 3 children, after George Hesser Bliss left the family. Gordon Frazey Bliss, knew him as "Dad" from the time he was about 6 years old. Gordon's brother Clayton and sister Irene also referred to him as "Dad". In fact they adopted the last name Brown during their school years. Clifford was the eldest and had already flown the nest, striking out on his own when he was 15 years of age and about the time his father and mother, George and Blanche, divorced.

Grandpa Brown as I knew him was a jovial fellow with an English accent. I was told he worked as a longshoreman in Bellingham before he retired. He was a cuddly grandpa and always joking and playing with his "grandchildren".
