Important English composer of secular and sacred music. Accomplished performer on various instruments. Household musician and composer for King Charles I. Fell at the Battle of Rowton Heath, during the siege of Chester.
William Lawes was buried in Chester Cathedral. The exact location of his resting place in the cathedral is unknown.
