Army 1st Lt. Garrison C. Avery, 23, of Lincoln, Neb.; died February 1, 2006 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.; killed Feb. 1 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. Funeral services for 1st Lt. Garrison Avery are at 10 a.m. Monday at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., said Rev. Dean O'Bryan, pastor at Trinity Baptist Church, where the family attends. Avery will be buried in the West Point Cemetery. Avery was killed when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Baghdad. Avery is a 2004 West Point graduate and 2000 graduate of Lincoln High School. The family attends Trinity Baptist Church. He and his wife, Kayla, were married in June. She lives in Clarksville, Tenn. He also is survived by his mother, Susan; two brothers, Clinton, and Johnathan; and a sister, Elizabeth.
