Lizzie was the daughter of John Harvey and Lydia Gregory Depriest. She was the fourth of eleven children. She met and then married Daniel Boone Shelley on July 25, 1897 in Birch Tree, Shannon County, Missouri. Daniel and Lizzie raised four girls. They lived all of their lives in Birch Tree and were a vital part of this rural, small town communnity.
