Joseph was a mechanic and blacksmith in Columbia before retiring, and at one time he owned his own shop. He also worked at the Melones gold mine.
Survivors included a cousin, Angeline Golob of Sonora; seven nieces, Arleen Holland and Audrey Ehleris, both of San Francisco, Edith Ghiglieri of Melones, Valerie Gordon of Lockeford, Marie Thompson of Lodi, Elaine Likins of San Ramon and Lois Ward of San Jose and one nephew, Irwin Christie of San Francisco.
Mr. Bacigalupi's parents, Antone Bacigalupi and Mary Galiardo Bacigalupi,emigrated from Italy and owned a farm in Columbia where Joseph was born. After they passed away, their daughter, Theresa, helped support the family with dressmaking while the others worked the family farm or attended school. The children in the family were Theresa, Peter, Laura, Louisa, John, Joseph, Antone, Frank, and Eva.
