Dorris Ervin Epley died on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Hospice of Palm Beach County in West Palm Beach, FL. She was 96. Mrs. Epley was born in Sheffield, AL, the daughter of Charles and Lucy Ervin. Her father was the chief executive of the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Ralroad.
Mrs. Epley graduated from Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, and in 1934 she married Marion J. Epley, Jr., who died in 1997. Mr. Epley retired in 1969 as chairman of Texaco, Inc. Mr. and Mrs. Epley moved to Palm Beach in 1971 and were members of the Everglades Club, Bath and Tennis Club and Seminole Club, as well as the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-By-The-Sea. In 1996, they moved to Delray Beach and in 2004 she moved to West Palm Beach.
Mrs. Epley is survived by her son, Marion J. Epley III and his wife, Mary Jane, of Millbrook, NY, and her daughter, Sara Davis, and her husband Richard, of Houston, TX, as well as seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Ervin Monroe and Sara Ervin Nesbit, and her brother, Charles Ervin, Jr.
