He was born March 09, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Ray Halterman and the late Virginia Hoot Halterman. He was united in marriage to Lou Smith. He was a water control technician by profession and served his country in the United States Army. Duane was a lifelong member of American Veteran's Motorcyclist Club, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Elks Lodge. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew and loved him.

Sons: Jeremy Smith and wife Tasha of Mena, Arkansas Mark Smith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
Daughters: Margaret Halterman Clough and husband Matt of Hysteria, California Melanie Halterman of California Ashley Halterman of California
Grandchildren: Kolbe Smith, Kaylee Smith, Kyle Smith, Hannah Clough, and Anthony Smith
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Virginia Halterman, a sister, Anita Halterman and a brother, Jack Halterman.
Mr. Halterman was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. Memorial services will be Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Mena with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating.
