Obituary:
Brunswick—Harriet Louise Banks Bibber, 100, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Rutherford, NJ, November 16, 1907, daughter of Alfred Corning and Lillian Marie Behrens Banks. She attended schools in Montclair, NJ, Sandwich, MA, Pittsfield, MA, Winter Park, FL, and Monteverde, FL. She was employed for 17 years at the First National Bank in Mt. Dora, FL. She married Herbert W. Bibber, September 21, 1943 in Brunswick. Mr. Bibber died November 20, 1974. She moved to Harpswell in 1946 and later to Woodlawn Towers, Brunswick in 1972. For the past year she has resided at Dionne Commons in Brunswick. Mrs. Bibber was Office Manager of Woodlawn Tower from 1971 to 1984. She was a Director of Greater Brunswick Housing Corporation and a Commissioner for the Brunswick Housing Authority from 1984 until 2003. During that time she never missed a Board meeting. Mrs. Bibber was a proponent of affordable housing. When she retired as commissioner the Brunswick Housing Authority honored her by naming the town's first affordable housing subdivision, "Harriet Way", after her. She also wrote the newsletter for the Woodlawn Tower Association meetings for many years. During her 100th birthday celebration Rep. Stan Gerzofsky presented her with a sentiment from the Members of the Senate and House of Representatives for her dedication to the Brunswick Housing Authority and the people of Maine. She was predeceased by her sister, Violet M. Whitehead. She attended the Elijah Kellogg Church in Harpswell.
There will be a Celebration of her Life at the Elijah Kellogg Church in Harpswell later in the spring. Friends may visit from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 28th at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Harpswell. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, National Center, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231, or to The Elijah Kellogg Church, 917 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell, Maine 04079, or a charity of ones choice.
