According to Rick Newton, of Newton Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, there were some disinterments from Chico Cemetery after the Mausoleum was built in 1930, which is why there are some interment dates that PRE-date the start of the mausoleum.

Chico Daily Enterprise, Wednesday, April 24, 1907: "Death of Mrs. Mary Ballew. Mary Ann Ballew, a well known resident of Centerville, died last night shortly before 12 o'clock. The deceased was the wife of R. J. Ballew and was the mother of five children, Hary, Nellie, Richard, William and Mrs. Charles Lee.
"Mrs. Ballew was a native of Illinois, her maiden name being Mary Ann Stace. She was married in 1878 and at the time of her death was 48 years of age.
"The funeral arrangements have not been definitely made, but it is probable that the services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Presbyterian Church at this place."

Chico Record, Friday Morning, April 26, 1907, pg 8 col 3: Mrs. Ballew Is Tenderly Laid To Rest. The funeral services of the late Mrs. Mary Ballew were held yesterday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church, and many friends, both from Chico and from Centerville, were present in her memory. Mrs. Ballew was one among the few person who are always, under all circumstances, willing to lend aid to those in distress. In fact, to think of Mrs. Ballew called to mind to all who knew her such qualities as all wish for, yet few possess.
For this reason her place is one that will not be easily filled in the community in which she resided, and her absence will be noticed upon more than one occasion which will arise in the future, where one with much patience yet with much experience shall be needed.
Rev. White conducted the services, and carefully reviewed the many admirable traits shown by the deceased. An impressive solo was rendered during the services by Mrs. L.H. Wasley.
