William Gerald Barnhart, 91, of Ft Myers Beach FL, formerly of the Atwood and Arthur area, died January 8, 1990 at his home. Funeral services were held at Born-Wikoff Funeral Home, Atwood with burial in Arthur Cemetery.
Mr. Barnhart was born October 1, 1898 at Ivesdale, s/o William Henry and Ida Morris Barnhart. He married Mary Sinclair in 1923; she died in 1955. He then married Dorothy Moran; she died in 1968. He then married Florence Brand and she died in1984. Survivors include two daughters: Norma Jean Barnhart of Ft Myers Beach and Janice Elaine Barnhart of Chicago; and a brother, David Harold Barnhart of Bement. A brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Barnhart graduated from Illinois State University and attended the University of Illinois. He started teaching in 1920 at an Arthur country school. He then went to Quincy and was a manual arts teacher. He then taught at Sterling Morton High School in Cicero. He retired in 1960 and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada.
Memorial contributions were made to a charity of the donor's choice. He was a World War I veteran.
