Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) for G. Jay Ballard, 87, of Sullivan in the McMullin Funeral Home in sullivan with the Rev. William Laughlin officiating. Burial will be in Arthur Cemetery.
Mr. Ballard died at 9:48 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
Born Feb. 29, 1892 in Douglas County, he was a son of Monte and Harriett Harding Ballard. A retired barber, he married Flora Bilbrey in 1915. She died Nov. 7, 1966. He married Opal King Oct. 27, 1943 in Decatur and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Charles of Decatur; stepson, Rolla Barker of Marrissa; daughter, Mrs. Victor (Pauline) Shasteen of Sullivan; stepdaughters, Mrs. Gaylord (Helen) Trombly of Orlando, Fla. and Mrs. Wanda Greene of Houston, Tex.; sisters, Mrs. Bess Lynch and Mrs. Flora Payne, both of Decatur, and Mrs. Blanche Pope of Danville, Ind.; four grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
