Mrs. John L. Head

Mamie Irene Mosbey, youngest daughter of John T. and Mary Ellen [Jones] Mosbey, was born near Promise City, In Wayne County, Dec 16, 1905 and departed this life Nov 10, 1945 at the St. Joseph's hospital, Centerville, at the age of 39 years, 10 months and 24 days.

On Jan 6, 1926 she was united in marriage to John L. Head. To this union were born 4 children, two sons who died in infancy and two daughters, Louise, age 9, and Johnita almost 4. She is survived by her devoted husband, two daughters, and her aged mother, who was her constant companion;one sister, Mrs. Stella DeVore of Promise City; three brothers, Glenn near Promise City, Jay of New London, Charles of Davenport, Iowa. Her father preceded her in death Jan 2, 1940.

She was afflicted with a strange incurable disease in the form of creeping paralysis which baffled the skill of physicians. She succumbed to an attack of pneumonia. Her cheerful disposition won her many friends. She bore her affliction with great fortitude and surprising patience. She was never heard to murmer or complain. She will be greatly missed in the home more so on account of her helpfulness. One great blessing to the family was that her mind and memory remained remarkably clear. All we leave in this life in the influence which we cast on the lives of others and it can be truthfully said her influence was always for the good.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov 11, by the Rev. Thomas Morlan of Russell, at the Jones cemetery church. The theme was "heaven".

A choir composed of Deloris Elgin, Betty Green, Roy Neal and Lawrence McCameron, sang her favorite hymns which she sometimes sang with the family, Rock of Ages, In the Garden, The Old Rugged Cross, and What a Friend We Have in Jesus. Flower girls were Mrs. Vera Sager, Mrs. Wilma Walhall, Mrs. Alta Stone, and Mrs. Bertha Guthrie. Nephews were pallbearers, Ivan DeVore, Earl and Wayne Head, Vernon Curtis, Roy Wilmot and Dean Husted. Interment was made in the Jones Cemetery.
