|Death: ||May 3, 1922|
Seven members of a family died mysteriously. Ages 6 to 75.
Joseph, 75, Grandfather
Napoleon, 40, father
Mrs C LaCroix, his wife, who had been in ill health
Children aged 11,10 (Leopold),8 (Louise),5
Children Gaston and Henri George, ages 3 and 17 months, survived though Gaston was very ill
The mother collapsed in the garden a few hours after lunch, but this was not thought alarming because of her history of ill health. Later the children Leopold and Louise ran to neighbors saying that their parents were both very ill. The children collapsed on the way back to the house and died in the arms of the neighbors, in great pain.
Doctors attempted to save the family with injections of strychnine, because strychnine poisoning was suspected. Wild Parsnips were originally suspected but later cleared as being the cause. No cause was ever determined.
