Harold ‘Hap' Book; owned trucking firm

Harold "Hap" Book, 70, of RD 1, Eastbrook-Harlansburg Road, died at 9:05 p.m. Nov. 1, 1996 at United Community Hospital. Born in Cranberry Township, Butler County on April 1, 1926, he was a son of Floyd W. and Alice Myers Book. He married the former Jane E. ------ on June 28, 1947. Along with his family, Mr. Book owned and operated Books Excavating and Trucking in Scott Township, which he began in 1956. He also worked for 26 years as a driver for Prior Oil Co. of Portersville and for Cambridge-Lee Trucking Co. of New Jersey until 1982. Mr. Book maintained his own businesses up until the time of his recent illness. He was a member of the North Plain Grove Presbyterian Church where he was a former elder and trustee. He belonged to the Community Sociables of Plain Grove. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, ------ of Butler; three sons, ------, ------ and ------ Book of New Castle; two sisters, June V. Wimer of Portersville and Mrs. Fred (Grace A.) Sharrar of Evans City; three brothers, Clarence Robert of Slippery Rock, William F. of Cape Coral, Fla., and Paul L. Book of Slippery Rock; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, and 12:30 p.m. up until the 1:30 service tomorrow at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The Rev. Mark Davis, pastor of North Plain Grove Presbyterian Church and the Rev. Robert McCrumb, pastor of Mars Presbyterian Church in Mars, Pa., will officiate. Burial will be in the North plain Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Unit of the American Cancer Society, 209 N. Mercer St. New Castle, Pa. 16103.
